My Best Thought

". . . Hope springs eternal in the human breast . . ."
Alexander Pope, 1688-1744

I didn't have words for this blog post because of some sad news. My heart led me to this post I did back in 2011.

"In the hymn "Be Thou My Vision," an 8th Century Irish hymn, one of the titles ascribed to God is "Best Thought." I've never thought of a title like this before, but, indeed, God is the Best Thought we can possibly have. The first verse reads:

"Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art:
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light."

"Over the last week my thoughts have turned to "seeing" God. Actually seeing Him with my own eyes. We say often I can hardly wait to see God, but the phrase must have become common to me, and I hadn't really focused on that reality.

"Recently I read these words: "Think of stepping on shore and finding it Heaven; Of taking hold of a hand and finding it God's."

"Second verse of Be Thou My Vision:

"Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord:
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son,
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one."

"A dear friend made this comment back in 2011:

""Oh so true Carol! I have always been encouraged by the Phil. 4:8 "think on these things" passage and what I've learned is that even if you can find nothing worthy in your circumstances to think on... by focusing on God... thinking on Him... He fulfills the entire list for He forever is true, noble, praiseworthy, etc... so from that verse we see again that He truly is the BEST THOUGHT we can have! Blessings my friend..."

Third verse

 "Riches I heed not, or man's empty praise,
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art."

"Take a moment today and consider seeing God. It's powerful. It will be a reality one day. He is the very Best Thought I can ever have!"

Is it as cold over there as it is over here?

Fourth verse
"High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'n's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all."

Ancient Irish, Mary E. Byrne, 1880-1931

Very BEST Thought!
